Shelly Allis, MPT, ATC

Shelly grew up in the California Bay Area and completed her undergraduate degree and athletic training certification at San Diego State University where she competed as a gymnast. She attended Physical Therapy school at the University of Southern California, and she and her husband, Bob, founded Physical Therapy Specialists in 1994. Shelly enjoys treating a wide variety of conditions, but has a special interest in figuring out how movement patterns and mechanics result in injury. Her hobbies include staying active by rock climbing and hiking, as well as reading and listening to audiobooks.

Robert Allis, MPT, MEd

Bob is a native of East Lansing, Michigan. He attended the University of Michigan where he earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. He continued on to complete Physical Therapy school at the University of Southern California. Bob became the co-founder of Physical Therapy Specialists with his wife Shelly in 1994. Bob is certified in mechanical diagnosis and therapy of the spine and extremities through the McKenzie Institute. He spends his free time playing disc golf and basketball, as well as the piano.

Joanne Hatcher, MPT

Joanne grew up in Cupertino, California and attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Science and was a member of the women’s soccer team. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy at Samuel Merritt University. Joanne has been part of the PTS family since 1998. She loves spending time outdoors, hiking with her family and their dog Diego. Joanne also has a passion for soccer, she has played for most of her life and enjoys staying up to date on her two favorite teams, Liverpool and the U.S. Women’s National team.

Charles Barstow, MPT, OCS, COMT, CSCS

Chuck was born in North Carolina but moved often throughout his childhood with his father’s career as a marine. He has spent much of his life in California and considers Riverside to be his hometown. Chuck completed his undergraduate degree at Indiana State University, and Physical Therapy school at Loma Linda University. He is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. Chuck has been a part of the PTS family since January 2012, and he is best known for his sense of humor and passion for running. He has completed 30 marathons including the Boston Marathon!

Leven Roberts, DPT

Leven grew up in Stuart, Florida and received her undergraduate degree at Florida State University. She attended Physical Therapy school at the University of Saint Augustine for Health Science in St. Augustine, Florida, and joined us at PTS in August, 2020. Leven has a special interest in orthopedic physical therapy, specifically with the spine and hips. She has goals to specialize in this area and obtain her OCS certification in the future. Her favorite activities and hobbies include competing in local triathlons, swimming, surfing, hiking and cooking.

Matthew Potter, DPT

Matt is originally from Melbourne Beach, Florida, and he went to Florida State University for his undergraduate degree. He studied Physical Therapy at the University of North Florida and joined us here at PTS in August, 2020. He takes special interest in working with athletes, and hopes to obtain an OCS certification in the future. Matt spends much of his free time outdoors; running, hiking and biking trails, swimming and surfing. He also enjoys carving tiki totem poles using palm tree logs!

Genene Lara, DPT

Genene is an Arroyo Grande native! After working here as a PT aide, she has rejoined our team here at PTS as a Physical Therapist. She attended Fresno Pacific University as an undergrad, studying Kinesiology. Genene traveled to Dallas, Texas to complete her Physical Therapy education at the University of St. Augustine. She plans to work her Orthopedic Clinical Specialist certification (O.C.S) next. She enjoys playing softball, hiking, reading and playing boardgames. She is also an avid true crime podcast listener.
